May Hike - West Point on the Eno

Day/Time: Thursday, May 24 - 6:45pm Trail: South River Trail - Buffalo Trail - Laurel Bluff Trail Distance from home: 7.3 miles Location and/or Map: http://enotrails.com/west-point-area.htm Weather: 80 degrees and humid at time of hike. Hiking Friends: Just Rob, Danielle and Eliza This month's hike was close to home. Today, we celebrated 9 years of marriage! Yay! 9 years sure has flown by. We decided to not do anything big for our anniversary. We thought the idea of having a picnic in a park, followed by a family hike would be all the fun we needed to properly celebrate our 9th year together. We drove through Bojangle's on the way to the park and got a family pack of fried chicken, some mashed potatoes, dirty rice, corn and sweet tea. You know, a typical Southern food dinner! It had rained a little bit earlier in the day, and the grass was wet, so we had to nix the idea of laying out our picnic blanket to eat on. Oh well. West Point on the Eno has 2 very nice picnic shelters and they were both not in use by anyone. When we unpacked our chicken dinner, we realized that Bojangle's didn't give us any plastic sporks! Oh no! We can't eat mashed potatoes and dirty rice with our hands. Good thing there's a Kroger right across the street. Rob just ran over there, bought some plastic silverware and ran back. He was gone only 5 minutes total! We ate our dinner and talked about how quickly 9 years seems to have flown by. Eliza ate every bit of the fried chicken we gave her. And she loves mashed potatoes, of course. She wasn't into the dirty rice at all. That's okay - more for me and Rob! Then we hiked the South River Trail, the Buffalo Trail and then came out on the Laurel Bluff trail. The South River Trail begins over by the mill and near the dam. You can't miss it. We only took 4 pictures because we were so busy just enjoying nature together as a family, so I'll just post them below.
West Point on the Eno is a wonderful city park. If you've never been there, I highly recommend you check it out. It's a great place to take kids and explore nature without needing to drive a long way out into the country.
